IHI Group’s Vision for Society
The IHI Group (hereinafter, “IHI”) has signed the United Nations Global Compact, an initiative to build a sound, global society, and was registered as its participating company on February 6, 2022. In addition, IHI joined the Global Compact Network Japan, a local network in Japan.
Based on IHI’s corporate philosophies of “Contributing to the development of society through technology” and “Human resources are our single most valuable asset”, IHI aims to realize a sustainable society by addressing various social issues through business. To achieve this goal, IHI considers “Human rights” and “Diversity and inclusion” as material issues and are conducting ESG management to secure and maintain stakeholder trust.
The ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact in four areas (“Human rights”, “Labour”, “Environment”, and “Anti-corruption”) are consistent with IHI’s Management Philosophy and ESG management. IHI affirms and will strive to realize these ten principles.
United Nations Global Compact
The United Nations Global Compact is a voluntary initiative in which companies and organizations act as good members of society by demonstrating responsible and creative leadership and participate in the creation of a global framework to achieve sustainable growth.
The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact
Human Rights
Principle 1: | Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and |
Principle 2: | make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses. |
Labour
Principle 3: | Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; |
Principle 4: | the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour; |
Principle 5: | the effective abolition of child labour; and |
Principle 6: | the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. |
Environment
Principle 7: | Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; |
Principle 8: | undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and |
Principle 9: | encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies. |
Anti-Corruption
Principle 10: | Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery. |
